On Friday, our U12/13 Touch Rugby squad proudly represented the school at the National Schools Touch Championships Final, hosted at Oxford Harlequins RFC in partnership with TrySport and England Touch.
The event brought together over 250 boys’, girls’, and mixed teams from across the UK, with players aged between 12-16 competing in a vibrant and inclusive festival of sport. It was truly inspiring to witness so many young athletes playing with such energy, positivity, and sportsmanship. With more than 150 schools already signed up for next year’s competition, the future of Touch Rugby in schools looks incredibly exciting.
Our squad of 12 committed and enthusiastic Lower School pupils embraced the opportunity with great spirit, building on their strong performance in the qualifying tournament held in March, and their earlier experiences in the ‘Other Half Touch Rugby’ initiative led by Miss Hurrell during the Michaelmas Term.
While results didn’t always go our way, the team’s progress throughout the day was clear for all to see – and the enjoyment was undeniable. In their final fixture, the 5th/6th place playoff, the team produced their most cohesive and determined display yet, finishing with a well-earned win to secure 5th place overall. The tournament reignited their passion for Touch Rugby and left them eager to continue their development with more regular training and fixtures next season. We returned to school full of pride in the team’s progress and excited about what lies ahead. A huge well done to everyone involved!
