Fourth Year academic scholars visited London. The day began at the National Archives, where there was a taught session on the Cold War. The students were allowed to handle original documents, including a telegram sent by Winston Churchill to Harry S Truman in 1945 that contained the first ever mention of the term “Iron Curtain”. We then walked to Kew Gardens where our theme was evolutionary biology, exemplified by the amazing collection of exotic and indigenous plants in the glasshouses and kitchen garden.
