Last week, our Lower Sixth French students took part in a translation workshop with Dr Jennifer Higgins looking at how best to translate the beginning of novels. The workshop started with a discussion of key principles of translation, before working on the opening of an as yet unpublished French novel set in Marseille, and Camus’ ‘L’Étranger’. Pupils enjoyed putting their translation skills to the test to come up with a fitting translation of the first paragraph of both novels. We are grateful to Jennifer for putting on yet another fascinating workshop.
