Jointly hosted by Abingdon School and St Helen and St Katharine, the annual Abingdon Careers Convention was held last week and offered a fantastic opportunity for some 800 students from every secondary school in Abingdon to meet a wide range of people working in different occupations, hear about their work and what it involves, and learn about education and training routes into employment. Students also had the chance to meet apprentices working in different sectors; attend panel presentations on roles in healthcare, business, and the built environment; get CV writing advice; and sit down with an independent adviser from Morrisby for a 1:1 career guidance. Thanks go to the more than 200 parents and alumni of the two host schools, as well as employees from local area employers, who gave up their evening to volunteer and represent their occupation; without their support, the event would not have been possible.
