On Wednesday our 1st XV played RGS High Wycombe at home in Round 3 of the U18 National Schools Cup.

The team started well scoring two excellent tries playing at a fast pace and exploiting the space they had created to go 15-0 up inside of 15 minutes.

RGS clawed the game back scoring a try and a penalty. Abingdon managed to take advantage of two more penalties and with 15 mins to go the score was 21-13 to Abingdon to set up a thrilling end.

After a lot of pressure from RGS they scored from close range slotting the conversation to take the score to 21-20 to Abingdon with 6 minutes to play. More pressure from RGS resulted in a penalty a long way out that was kicked to put RGS into the lead for the first time in the match with one minute left on the clock.

Abingdon regained possession from the kick and won a penalty on the half way line that they kicked to touch. The line out was won and play worked towards the posts. A composed bit of play saw the final ruck underneath the posts and RGS were offside giving an opportunity to kick at posts. The three points were taken resulting in Abingdon having a stunning win to kick start the second half term and send them into the area final of the competition (last 16) against either Seaford College or Canford who are yet to play.

Huge congratulations to the team for a real squad effort. We now look forward to a full block fixture this Saturday v Eton College.
