Last Wednesday our 1st XV played Canford School, Dorset, in the South West regional final (last 16) of the National Schools Cup. In ‘old money’ this used to be called The Daily Mail Cup.

The match was an excellent game of school boy rugby ebbing and flowing after the first try of the game was scored in the first minute. At half time the score was 15-14 to Abingdon. Canford took the lead in the second half, but with just under ten minutes remaining Abingdon went back in front and defended their lead seeing the 1st XV head into the quarter-finals. A wonderful achievement for the pupils and School’s rugby. The last time Abingdon reached the final eight in the National Schools Cup was eight seasons ago in the 2011-12 season .

The quarter-final match will now be played on Wednesday 4 December 14:30KO on Waste Court against Whitgift School after they beat Simon Langton Grammar School, Kent, in their London & South East regional final.

The result against Canford means our 1st XV are now four games unbeaten this half term after victories over Eton, Radley and RGS High Wycombe. We look forward to next weekend where the Rugby Club play RGS Guildford before finishing the season against Bedford School.
