Did you know humans share 50% of our genes with bananas? Year 8 have been extracting the DNA from bananas in science lessons. First, mush your banana, add hot water, salt and washing up liquid, filter and then add ethanol. After a few minutes the DNA separates out into a cloudy layer which can be extracted from the solution. A fruitful introduction to genetics!
