Today Year 6 went for a night in the woods as part of the regular ‘Bushcraft’ experience for this year group. After arriving and having a quick snack, it was straight down to learning about the various methods of building a fire. The boys then put this into practice and collected wood of all shapes and sizes from the surrounding woodland. After building their fires, it was time to cook lunch – roasted trout. After lunch, is was then time to learn about building shelters. Then, each ‘tribe’ collected materials and got down to the business of making their own shelter and for the first time, the current year 6 all made the decision that they would be sleeping under the shelters, eschewing the comfort of the tents that were also available.
