The Year 5 Soirée was a wonderfully relaxed and memorable evening. Parents brought picnics and take-away pizzas which were consumed in the school hall whilst boys delivered first class entertainment in the form of singing, instrumental pieces, recitation and magic acts.
The evening began with a performance of St George and the Dragon by Debbie Rose, a cantata with seven songs featuring a touching solo by Kayden, some impressive harmonies, very professional African drumming and a lively re-enactment of the dragon’s demise by Alex as St George and Tye as the dragon.
Sammy worked the audience superbly with his card tricks while Scott, Lorcan and Thomas dazzled with disappearing coins, mind-controlled tomato ketchup and buckets of water.
We were treated to a spell-binding rendition of ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes as well as instrumental solos by Leo, Takumi, Quinn, Luther, Archie, Leo, Charlie and Daniel.
Finally, the whole of year 5 demonstrated their musical prowess with a rousing performance of ‘The Wreck’ by Jan Holdstock.
