Prior to our departure, our tour party received the disappointing news that our first fixture of the tour versus Mount Kelly, Tavistock had been cancelled due to the heavy rain. However, this did not dampen spirits as the boys set off for Plymouth adorned in their tour hoodies and caps – all very excited about their weekend away. A brief stop for lunch at Taunton Dean Services and then we were back on the road heading for our destination, The Premier Inn, Sutton Harbour.

An afternoon of tenpin bowling and a chicken and chips lunch soon erased the boys' disappointment. Supper at The Premier Inn and a dose of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul at the cinema completed an exhausting day!

Although on a cricket tour, the highlight of the weekend for the boys was certainly the surfing at Polzeath Beach on Saturday. The surf was a messy 5ft. swell, testing for many of the beginners. However, by the end of the 2 hour lesson, most of the boys had stood up on their boards. Lunch on the beach followed by a game of football warmed everyone up. We returned to our Premier Inn Hotel on ‘the crest of a wave’ and keen to return again in the not too distant future. An impressive supper was ‘washed down’ by a dose of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales at the Vue cinema.

With great disappointment we once again learnt that our final match versus Yelverton Bohemians CC had fallen foul of the weather.

Following a full English breakfast, we checked out of our hotel and made our way back to Abingdon having enjoyed each other's company. I can only say that the Year 6s were great ambassadors for the school and received many positive comments from a number of people. Nathan and I would like to personally thank all the tourists for their great company and we look forward to touring with these boys again in the near future.
