Today Year 6 went to the synagogue in Oxford in a part of town called Jericho, named after Jericho. We were met at the gates by Mrs.Tomlinson who is a volunteer from the Oxford Jewish congregation. She led us in and gave us each a Siddur (prayerbook). We all noticed straight away it was written the wrong way!

We sat down in some seats and we were asked to look around and see what we noticed: the ceiling was made to look like waves to symbolise the Hebrews crossing the Red Sea with Moses. There was a Ner Tamid (an eternal light) at the front of the room in front of the Aron Hakodesh or Ark to show the holiness of the scrolls and that God is always there. The Ark had the Torah scrolls in it.
