The Under 13A squad was involved in the Dragon School Festival today. The aim of the day was for the boys (and coaches) to gain as much match-experience as possible, at this early stage of the season.
In their opening game our boys got off to a tremendous start scoring two tries in succession early in the first half. However, we allowed St Hugh’s back into the game in the second half with some half-hearted tackles. We ran out eventual winners by two tries to one.
Our next game was against the eventual winners Caldicott. Although we performed gamely we suffered a heavy defeat against an outstanding team.
The game against Beacon was a very close encounter and one which we should have won but time ran out after a slow start.
Comfortable victories against Abingdon School and St John’s, Leatherhead completed a very enjoyable afternoon. The Under 13s are exciting when in possession and capable of scoring from anywhere with the forceful running of our forwards and electric pace outside in the backs. However, our defence is certainly an area that we will be working on over the next few weeks.
