Last Wednesday the Under 13A squad played in the Dragon School Festival. The aim of the day was for the boys (and coaches) to gain as much match-experience as possible, at this early stage of the season.
In their opening game our boys got off to a rather slow start, conceding two early tries in the first half. However, we dominated the second half and scored a try but were unable to equalise against a strong Dragon defensive unit.
Our next game was against the eventual winners Caldicott. Although we performed gamely we suffered a heavy defeat against an outstanding team.
The third game against Beacon School, where we ran in five unanswered tries, gave us a great deal of confidence going into the play-off phase of the Festival.
A win against St John’s, Leatherhead and a draw against the Dragon completed a very enjoyable and insightful afternoon. The Under 13s are exciting when in possession and capable of scoring from anywhere with the forceful running of our forwards and electric pace outside in the backs. However, our defence is certainly an area that we will be working on over the next few weeks!
