In the last week of term, we returned to the Amey Theatre for the first time since 2019 for our Summer Concert – It would be Director of Music, Sean’s, first!
The concert featured performances from each year group, our Junior and Senior Choirs, Orchestra and some of our instrumental groups, all taken from musicals of the stage and screen. Songs from classics – West Side Story, Mary Poppins and The Wizard of Oz; Lloyd-Webber hits – Cats, The Phantom of the Opera and The School of Rock; modern shows – The Prince of Egypt and We Will Rock You; and pupil-favourites – Shrek the Musical and The Spongebob Squarepants Movie, ensured a varied programme. The children all sang with gusto and commitment to bring the songs alive, often accompanied by actions.
The Summer Concert is also the time when we showcase our young musicians who are moving on from APS, stepping into the limelight for a solo spotlight. Piano, violin, oboe, drums and voice featured in superb performances from Oscar, Toby, Lawrence, Louis, Jayden and Nirmat who all dazzled with their skill and musicality.
The evening closed with everyone joining together in Barlow & Lloyd-Webber’s ‘Sing’ featuring a beautiful solo from Hugo.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped to make the concert such a success, it was good to be back on the big stage.
