Senior Swimming Gala

The Abingdon Prep School inter-house swimming gala recently took place at the Abingdon School 25 metre swimming pool. The gala was split into two events, Year 5 & 6 (Intermediate) and Year 7 & 8 (Senior).

During a very competitive afternoon of house swimming three school swimming records were broken.

In Year 5, the outstanding performer was Finn from Unicorn who won the 25m Backstroke (20.17sec.) and the 25m Breaststroke (24.12sec.). There were also fine performances from James, Seb and Zachary. Whilst in Year 6 Xander's performance stood out in his year group. He won the 25m Breaststroke (36.42sec.) and anchored his Griffin team to victory in both the Medley and Freestyle Relays. Jack, Ollie, George and Paddy also impressed.

The final results (Year 5 & 6): 1st – Griffin, 2nd – Unicorn, 3rd – Phoenix, 4th – Dragon

Although there were many impressive swimmers on display in Year 7 and some very exciting races, the most outstanding performer on the day was Ned. Ned won the Open 25m Butterfly (16.22sec.), 50m Freestyle (32.28sec.) and set a new school record in the 25m Backstroke (16.56sec.). There were also outstanding swims from James, Alex, Nikhil and Angus. Anchored by James the Phoenix House team ‘smashed’ the Freestyle Relay school record by two seconds (1:08.69sec.). The team consisted of James, Angus, Fabian and Freddie.

In Year 8 there was a whole host of talented swimmers. Quinn won the 25m Backstroke (19.41sec.) and the 50m Freestyle (33.04sec.). Jasper, Daniel, Monty and Jack all won their individual races. The Unicorn House won both the Medley Relay and broke the school record in the Freestyle Relay (1:04.20sec.). The team consisted of Freddie, Tye, Rupert and Jack.

The final results (Year 7 & 8): 1st – Phoenix, 2nd – Dragon, 3rd – Unicorn, 4th – Griffin
