Our Science Week activities finished on Friday with two shows given by Ian from Science Oxford.
Years 3 to 5 were treated to the Fire Show, which demonstrated the ‘Fire Triangle’ of oxygen, fuel and heat in many different ways, including trying to burst a balloon with water inside over someone’s head! Setting a mist of custard powder alight showed potential problems in mills and factories using flour. The show finished with the fire tornado, a super effect given by a rotating mesh drum.
Year 6 saw the Forces Show, which had plenty of opportunity for audience participation as Ian demonstrated Newton’s laws and many different types of forces, including the aerodynamics of falling objects, compressive bridge building and the shape of eggshells.
