Last Wednesday afternoon Year 5 spent a happy half hour playing rugby against the U10s from Chandlings. The A-teams played in a spirited encounter where Abingdon Prep were on the front foot most of the game but came unstuck on a few occasions when defending their perimeters. Our boys were formidable in the ruck and managed to keep the ball alive when in possession, which were the goals we had set for ourselves before the match. The final score was 4-4.

The Bs won their match after dropping behind in the first half. Their coach was delighted with their second half performance in which they crept back into the game before taking and retaining the lead. He praised their energy in the second half and their determination to enter into contact situations with zeal. Our C and D teams were both slightly outplayed but gave good accounts of themselves and enjoyed their afternoon of rugby competing and honing their skills.

Following the contests all of the boys raced back to the dining hall for match teas where we played host to our counterparts. The matches were duly dissected and the hot dogs dutifully devoured! Thank you to all who came and supported on the day – it was wonderful to see so many parents supporting APS on the touchlines.
