12-13 May 2015
On a breezy Tuesday morning, 35 Year 4s started our annual journey along the Ridgeway. Bags laden with scrumptious snacks were carried without much consternation to our first stop, Scutchamer’s Knob. After a brief pit stop we continued on the pathway taking in the wonderful sights and avoiding being blown off the track. Finally we reached our destination, Court Hill Youth Hostel, and tired feet could be rested. As the boys unpacked and settled into their dorms, the staff reflected on the relief of all of us reaching the first part of the journey. Next there was a den building challenge in the woods before an eagerly anticipated dinner of fish and chips or spaghetti bolognaise. A final burst of play outside as the sun was setting was followed by a quick change into pyjamas before a calming reading of books and bed. (Very) early the next morning, slightly sleepy boys awoke to a beautiful day and the prospect of 6 more miles walking awaited us. A hearty breakfast, and the staff’s favourite part, was gobbled up quickly before a last tidy up of dorms. We set off a little slower than the Tuesday however the prospect of the finish line kept most going through aching limbs. The sun was shining as we crested the hill at White Horse. As we drove back to APS, we reflected on the achievement of walking 12 miles in two days carrying all of our equipment and were grateful at all being able to do so. Thank you to all involved on what was a fantastic adventure.
