The boys in Reception have explored some of the stories linked to the Chinese New Year Celebrations. The classroom came alive with the sound of drums and oriental music; a Chinese restaurant sprang up in our role play area, complete with our own hand-crafted lanterns depicting the year of the rat; sculptures were made in rice; chopsticks were used to pick up goldfish to make a rice soup; the animals from the zodiac acted out the story of The Great Race; Chinese numerals adorned the wall. We even had a go at writing our own initials in Chinese letters.

We had a Chinese banquet and tried to eat everything with chopsticks. Our menu included both rice and egg noodles, boiled rice and vegetables that we had chopped ourselves and spring rolls. This was followed by slices of orange and dough rabbits filled with custard. Delicious! Happy New Year!
