The Year 8 boys, who are coming to the end of their time at Abingdon Prep, are enjoying experimenting in Science. During the Bronze Crest Award, boys plan investigations and complete experiments to enable them to answer a chosen question. This year we have a wide range of topics including material science, where boys are testing different materials to see how they affect the drop of a parachute and designing boats with maximum sailing capacity. A number of boys have chosen reactivity, whether this be between metals and acid, sodium bicarbonate and fizzy drinks or simply designing the perfect bath bomb. Perhaps the experiment that has led to most trial and error is our group aiming to build a machine for propelling tennis balls out of guttering. All boys are working very enthusiastically and are enhancing the skills they have developed through learning at Abingdon Prep.
