Year 3 have been learning about how World War II affected the lives of children. We have all seen a lot of photographs, books and websites about that time and some of us have been able to bring special items to class from relatives who served in the war. Most of us though, have not been able to actually handle any artefacts from such a long time ago.
Our trip to the Museum of Oxford gave us that chance. Katie, our guide, explained how important air raid wardens were in Oxford during the War. We were able to try on a real air raid warden’s hat and pick up the rattle and bell they would have used to warn people of bombing raids or gas attacks.
