Eleven boys embarked on the journey to orchestral heaven when they attended an Orchestral Prep School Day at Radley College. The day started with the Precentor, Sam Gladstone, putting them through their paces with some engaging physical and rhythmical warmups. The boys rehearsed in small groups to begin with, slowly building up to the full orchestra by 14:00. It was amazing to see how such young musicians were able to develop their playing as a large ensemble in such a short amount of time – a truly wonderful occasion. After tea and cake, the students performed together for friends and family at 16:30. The boys all had a wonderful day and I would love to say that the music was the sole source of their pleasure, though the food provision may have also had something to do with it!
