“You are going where?” “For how long?” “In this weather!” “Camping!” … It’s difficult to convey the tone of incredulity here, suffice to say these observations were accompanied by looks of disbelief and in some cases pity. The trip leader maintained the “there’s no bad weather, only bad clothing” and “Wales is beautiful in the rain” mantra, whilst secretly anguishing about the wisdom of suggesting that 38 Year 5 boys could learn and have fun at the same time on a remote farm in mid Wales for four days in the wettest May in history.

Some memories of Abingdon Prep’s first visit to Naturesbase by the boys who survived.
