To mark International Week last week, Pre-Prep explored the different areas of our world. On Monday, our Reception class took off on a flight to Africa, whilst Year 1 left for Australia, and Year 2 headed for South America! We have explored the different cultures including their food, art, music, flags and lifestyles.
The senior section welcomed Pradeep and Yuvani to talk about life in Sri Lanka. Prior to their interview, pupils from 8R gave an introduction to the geography, history, government and cuisine of the country. It was fascinating to hear about life growing up in Sri Lanka, about the cultural focus of family and education, and about the relative simplicity of childhood while growing up in the 70s and 80s. We learned a little about the impact of the Civil War on the country, about the tsunami of 2004, the development of Sri Lanka through an increased focus on infrastructure and tourism, but also the challenges facing the country both socially and politically.
At the end of the week, the Junior Section tried a variety of European breads. We tried breads from France, Germany, Italy and Greece. These included a brioche, croissants, pumpernickel and focaccia. The Greek pitta bread with hummus was a firm favourite!
