The Abingdon Prep School Inter-house swimming gala took place at Abingdon School's sports centre in their 25 metre swimming pool. The gala was split into two events, Year 5 & 6 (Intermediate) and Year 7 & 8 (Senior).
During a very competitive afternoon of house swimming four school swimming records were broken.
In Year 5, the outstanding performer was Xander from Griffin who won the 25m Backstroke (20.27sec), the 25m Freestyle (17.12sec) and anchored his house team to victory in both the Medley and Freestyle Relays. There were also fine performances from Ollie, Jack and Philip.
Whilst in Year 6, Ned and Nathaniel were the standout performers, breaking school records in the 25m Backstroke (18.36sec) and the 50m Freestyle (33.37sec) respectively. Ned also won the 25m Breastroke (22.65sec) and the 25m Freestyle (15.97sec) and Nathaniel won the 50m Breastroke (48.51sec). James, Alex and Angus also impressed.
The final results (Year 5 & 6): 1st – Griffin, 2nd – Dragon, 3rd – Phoenix, 4th – Unicorn
In Year 7, the outstanding performer was Quinn (50m Freestyle & 50m Breaststroke). There were also outstanding swims from Archie, Jack, Tye and Monty. The Unicorn House team won both the Medley Relay and ‘smashed’ the school record by two seconds in the Freestyle Relay (1:10.45sec.). The team consisted of Freddie, Tye, Jack and Ruirih.
In Year 8 there was a whole host of talented swimmers. Christopher won the 25m Backstroke (16.42sec), 25m Butterfly (14.81sec) and the 50m Freestyle (29.00sec). Alex, Jonny, William, Harrison and Tom all won their individual races. The Unicorn House won both the Medley Relay and broke the school record in the Freestyle Relay (1:04.46sec). The team consisted of Alex, William, Harrison and Tom.
The final results (Year 7 & 8): 1st – Unicorn, 2nd – Griffin, 3rd – Phoenix, 4th – Dragon
