The boys and staff from Abingdon Prep formed the human numbers 845 on the sports field this morning to welcome some very special visitors – a Merlin helicopter from 845 Naval Air Commando Squadron was coming to visit, arranged by the parents of one of our Y2 boys.
We could hear the helicopter coming before we spotted it on the horizon. It flew over and did a circuit for us before settling down on the field. After the helicopter rotors and engines stopped, we were all able to approach the helicopter and all the boys, from Reception up to Year 8 were able to harness themselves in to the 24 seats inside, the surprisingly roomy machine. The boys relished trying on the helmets, and some even got to sit in the cockpit.
Thank you very much to Captain Ben Lilley and his crew for such an exciting morning.
