Today in science Year 7 explored some of the colours of fireworks, by flame testing metal salts to see what happens.

Now they know that: strontium gives a strong red, lithium a more pinky red, potassium lilac, sodium gives yellow/orange and copper gives various greens amongst others when put in the Bunsen flame.

Technician Annabel also demonstrated iron filings that give the fizz to sparklers and magnesium that gives the bright white too.

Now Year 7 will be able to identify the colours at the School's fireworks display.
