As a precursor to Science Week coming soon, Years 3, 4 and 5 were treated to a workshop from the Earth Sciences Department of Oxford University all about volcanoes. Pupils got to handle and identify many different kinds of volcanic rock, discuss different kinds of volcanoes and discover some of the things that make them slow or explosive, like pressure and viscosity of the magma, complete with fun demonstrations. The workshop finished with a fun prediction game to guess when the volcano (represented by a party popper) would blow! Huge thanks to Charlie and Marina for leading such a fascinating and lively workshop.
