It was so fabulous to welcome parents to our first music platform concert of the year, and the first live indoor music event since the beginning of the pandemic. It was a lovely opportunity for our boys to perform to a live audience of peers and parents. We had pupils ranging in age from Year 3 right up to Year 8. They showcased a range of abilities, from those who had just started on their instruments through to those playing at a Grade 8 level, the highest grade offered by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) before university diploma levels.
The range of styles and genres made the concert very entertaining, with performances of music from the likes of Vivaldi and Kulah, through to Elton John, The White Stripes, and a particularly rousing drum performance of an original piece called “Noisy Neighbour!”
It was particularly wonderful to see so many friends of the performers giving up their own time to come along to support their peers. Performance experiences such as these are invaluable to any musician, and help to build confidence in many other areas.
I am already looking forward to the next Concert Platform, which will take place at 4.15pm in the school hall on Friday 5 November. All boys from across the school, no matter how experienced in their instrument, are welcome to sign up and perform, and all parents are welcome to attend. The boys can sign up on the sign up sheet in school or, alternatively, if your son expresses an interest in performing, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. All boys that perform will receive a gold!
