Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful day out to Combe Mill. The children explored the mill, learning lots of information about its history and how using water power helped to make many jobs more efficient before electricity was invented. The children were fascinated to watch blacksmiths at work, learnt about steam powered machines and how to turn wood on a lathe and even had a go at turning a model water mill. In the afternoon, the children made beautiful willow bird-feeders and fat balls to go with them. Before going home, they had a sunny walk through the forest, learning the names and features of different trees. Everyone had a great day and we are very grateful to the wonderful volunteers who took their time to show us around and shared their knowledge with us.
