Gong Hey Fat Choy! Gong Xi Fa Cai! 恭禧發財

The boys in Reception have explored some of the stories linked to the Chinese New Year Celebrations. The classroom came alive with the sound of drums and oriental music; a Chinese restaurant sprang up in our role play area, complete with our own hand-crafted lanterns; sculptures were made in rice; chopsticks were used to pick up items when counting; the animals from the zodiac acted out the story of The Great Race; monkeys were built from scrap materials and Chinese numerals adorned the wall. We even had a go at writing our own fortunes for cookies.

We had a Chinese banquet and tried to eat everything with chopsticks. Our menu included both rice and egg noodles, prawn and rice crackers, followed by lychee jelly and Chinese milk sweets and all washed down with coconut water and mango juice. Delicious! Happy New Year!
