The pupils developed a thirst for exploration of possible work opportunities when Michael Triff from the Senior School introduced 'Career Thinking' to our Year 8 boys. With their minds honed into thinking of their interests and the subjects that they currently enjoy, they were ready for the next step. By the afternoon the hall was buzzing with the excited hum of voices as our second careers event got into full swing. A selection of parents arrived on the stage to offer an individual five minute pitch to the boys, in order to whet their appetites and encourage them to explore the possibilities of a career in: Law, Hospital medicine, Dentistry, Cryogenics, Sustainable Architecture and Design, Entrepreneurial Property Development, RAF/Commercial Pilot, Academic Research and Mechanical Engineering. Year 8 had a 10 minute time slot with each of their possible career choices with opportunities to ask questions and explore a range of resources from, tooth fillings, robes and medical equipment to viewing and simulating open heart surgery. We all certainly had our eyes opened to the world of work and the path it may take to arrive at our destination.
