Our Science Club for Y5 and Y6 this year has been rechristened ‘Brainstems’ as we move to a more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) focus. This term, we have started a STEM project all about exploring ways of surviving on a desert island.
The first task is to create a water wheel from the limited resources on our ‘island’ – (we had to use plastic cups to represent coconut shells). The boys have started exploring designs to make an efficient wheel that catches the water and turns the central spindle – which then can power a fan or raise and lower a weight.
