Year 8 pupils recently took part in a two night residential, based in Swanage in Dorset, as part of their geography field studies and in support of their learning of coastal geomorphology. The pupils visited Durdle Door, Stair Hole and Lulworth Cove on the first day, allowing them to study features of a concordant coastline.
The next day, and despite a lively sou’westerly brewing up and some testing weather conditions, they were able to study a discordant coastline. They got up close to Old Harry Rocks and the Pinnacles, and then investigated the changing profile of Studland Beach.
On the final day, and, once again, despite some persistent Dorset rain, the boys studied at first hand the site and situation of Corfe Castle, whilst also learning of its long and varied history.
A successful trip, and a memorable one for the richness of its landscapes, coastal features and… its dramatic weather!
