On Wednesday our middle section (Years 5 and 6) were involved in a ‘block’ fixture versus Magdalen College School. The Year 6s played away at MCS and registered three wins and one narrow defeat, and the Year 5s achieved the same results. This was a superb way to sign off the season; both year groups have made huge improvements over the term.
On the same day our Under 13 Cs attended the Cheltenham College Prep Barbarians Festival and gave a fantastic account of themselves. The Festival hosted some impressive schools including Clifton Prep, Cheltenham Prep, Wycliffe Prep and Bromsgrove Prep. In difficult conditions with both wind and rain, the boys played some good attacking rugby, scoring tries in each of the four games played. Unfortunately, they struggled to tackle some fast and strong opponents and lost each game by the odd try. The boys had a great time and experienced their first rugby festival and they were equally pleased with the medal they received and the hot dog and cake after the game.
On Thursday our junior section (Years 3 and 4) were involved in fixtures against Magdalen College School. The Year 4s were undefeated in all four of their matches while the Year 3s won two and narrowly lost one of their three matches.
At the weekend our A teams at U10, U11, U12 and U13 hosted Cothill in their last matches of the season.
The Under 13 As were not at their best and salvaged a 10 – 10 draw with a try from Archie with just minutes to spare. The Under 12 As were too dominant for the opposition and won 30 – 10. However, this gave Russell the opportunity to rotate the squad. This was a really positive experience in their last game of the season and they even scored from a cross kick!
The Under 11 As started slowly but came back strongly in the second half to win the match by 25 – 5. While the Under 10s also finished the season well, with a convincing win by 30 – 10.
While Cothill are just beginning their season, ours has drawn to a memorable end. Throughout, the boys have worked hard for each other and improved with every match. Their many victories have stemmed from a season of hard work and a host of learning opportunities that playing regular rugby has afforded. We have once again been impressed with the camaraderie our boys share and the keen spirit with which they compete.
