1 July 2015

The original date for Sports Day this year was cancelled due to rain so we decided to run the track events during the normal school week. In really hot and testing conditions, the boys ran a set of very competitive races. In the Junior Section the highlight was Quinn breaking Henry’s old 800m record by an astonishing ten seconds! The Phoenix House quartet of Jasper, Joe, Kayden and Pearse also set a new 4x100m relay time for Year 4. It did not however stop Dragon House from winning the overall event by ten points from Unicorn. William and Johnny ran a brilliant race in the Year 5 800m and both broke the previous record by finished first and second. Following on from that the Year 5 and 6 relay records were equalled by two strong Dragon teams. Thomas, who won the individual 400m, collected the cup for Dragon, primarily because they won an impressive six events. Griffen House took the spoils in Years 7 and 8 after some fine individual performances. James (60m), Harrison (100m), Henry and James (both 800m), Ollie (400m) and Mathys (60m) all contributed to a large points total. There were three stand-out performances, Ollie set a new record for the 200m, Archie also broke the 100m record set by Nicholas in 2009 and the Phoenix Year 8 relay team (Joe, Archie, Daniel and Charlie) powered to victory and broke the previous relay record by an amazing four seconds.
