Abingdon Swim School is Swim England registered Swimming School. We teach all four competitive strokes, within the framework of the National Plan for Teaching of Swimming (NPTS). Assessments are carried out in the final few weeks of term.
Smaller classes, better results
Our swimming lessons focus on teaching skill development for beginners and improvers through to competent swimmers. Our class sizes are small with ratios of 1:6 for stages 1-3 and ratios of 1:7 for stages 4-5, so that focus is always on each individual child’s development.
Swim School breakdown
- Saturday and Sunday morning lessons
- Swim England qualified teachers
- Swim England registered Swim School
- We follow the Swim England learn to swim pathway
- Lessons are available for children aged 4 years and over
- Lessons are 30 minutes long
- Only £14.40 per lesson (inclusive of VAT)
- We offer a 10% discount for the third sibling
- Badges andcertificates are available for purchase upon successful completion at the end of each stage
Tax-Free childcare payments
We are pleased to confirm that we are now able to accept Tax-Free Childcare payments and employer vouchers for private swimming lessons. In line with HMRC guidance, this applies where lessons take place outside of school hours and are not part of the curriculum. If you would like to use Tax-Free Childcare or employer vouchers to pay for future lessons, please get in touch with us when invited to register for your child’s next set of lessons.

- Sunday 11 January – Sunday 29 March 2026 (there will be no lessons on Sunday 15 February due to half term).

Adult Swimming Lessons
Our Mission
In line with our ethos, Abingdon Swim School offers high-quality swimming lessons for adults in a safe and supportive environment, delivered by enthusiastic and experienced teachers. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to develop this essential life skill and the confidence that comes with it.
The Swim England Adult Swimming Framework includes four stages, which aim to help all adults reach their swimming goals. The four stages are:
- Be Water Confident
- Be A Swimmer
- Be a Better Swimmer
- Be a Master Swimmer

Parking
There is very limited parking for visitors at Abingdon School, in addition the roads around the school are private and subject to clamping.
The Charter Car Park in the centre of Abingdon is a short walk from the school and is free for the first two hours. Street Map shows other parking close by.
The Sports Centre has its own (but with very limited spaces) car park, next to the School Coach Park off the Faringdon road. OX14 1BQ. Please park considerately when our car park is full.
Please avoid parking on Faringdon Road, particularly across curbs, as it can make it difficult for wheelchair users and other pedestrians to access the pathway. Thank you for your understanding.
