Abingdon Swim School

Based at Abingdon School Sports Centre

Abingdon Swim School is a friendly and caring swimming school situated in Abingdon School Sports Centre.

Swimming lessons are available for ages 4-11 years.

Climbing Course – 6-week tuition

Junior climbing courses available throughout the year

Based at Abingdon School Sports Centre

Girls and boys aged 5-15 years

Our junior sessions are group based activities, designed to give an introduction into the world of climbing. Whilst focusing on enjoyment, your instructor will teach climbing techniques and basic safety skills required to progress in this sport. Based over a four-week course, there are beginners’ and improvers’ sessions designed to target those new to the sport, or those wanting to brush up on their technique. Each session is 1.5 hours.

Course fees:

  • £66 per person (six-week tuition) for ages 9-years and under

Competition Level Tennis Academy

This course is available to everyone

Girls and boys aged 11-15 years

Based at Abingdon School Sports Centre

We are very pleased to announce the return of our Competition Level Tennis Academy at Abingdon School Sports Centre, which focuses on developing each player to their maximum potential.

This academy is aimed at competitive level players who have played for their school or are playing for a club. Led by Martin Butler, Abingdon School’s Head Coach.

This academy includes:

  • Before and after video analyses in order to measure improvement
  • Computer analyses of power, spin, contact point and serve motion
  • Tactical analysis
  • Match play with statistics after the match
  • Talks on mentality – how to constantly strive for the next level on the court
  • Talk through a professional recorded match. Learn what is happening technically and
    tactically to the top players

Participants should bring their own packed lunch each day, along with weather appropriate clothing.

Pleas be aware, if adverse weather conditions occur then we might have to cancel the course last minute.

World of Games – 2D and 3D Gaming

This course is available to everyone

Based at Abingdon School Sports Centre

Girls and boys aged 13-17 years

Get your creative juices flowing and learn how to develop a 2D video game from start to finish. Simulate mechanical puzzles, create special effects, animate sprites, mix your own music for your game and create 3D effects with the camera view. On this introductory course you will use Construct 3, a world-class game development kit.

Your own game is just a few clicks away and when finished, you can let your friends play it!

No previous experience necessary.

10.00am – 4.00pm on each day.

Automatronix – Tech Camp

This course is available to everyone

Based at Abingdon School Sports Centre

Girls and boys aged 8-12 years

Automatronix Tech meets creative craft on this fantastic course. Participants will look into the basics of building paper automata, hook it up to hobby motors, switchers and lights or drive them with servo motors and Micro:Bit.

Participants on the course will work on coupling gears to power the optical illusion spinner and create their own illusion patterns. On the third day of the course participants will undertake their own individual project, either using colourful pre-printed models or developing their own cardboard prototype. Curated by CanLabs’ tutors, there is a brilliant new project to take part in every day.

At the end of the course, each participant will come home with a video clip of their completed projects to show off to family and friends.

Bit:bot Cars – Coding Camp

This course is available to everyone

Based at Abingdon School (Greening Court)

Girls and boys aged 13-17 years

This hands-on coding camp has been developed to take a complete novice on an exciting journey. Participants will use Micro:bit to drive a model car and code it with Python. In addition, participants on the course will learn to code all on-board hardware from LEDs, buttons, speakers, accelerometers, Bluetooth and microphone. They will also use line sensors, proximity sensors and light sensors on the car, implement remote and autonomous driving and have fun playing their own games.

This coding camp promises to be fun, creative and engaging, and is catered to all abilities.

The Land of Ozobots – Robotics Camp

This course is available to everyone

Based at Abingdon School (Greening Court)

Girls and boys aged 8-12 years

  • Get to know these cute and geeky robots and embark on an exciting coding journey!Participants will learn the basics of line-following robots, use colour markers to create a cityscape for Ozobots to roam and colour code them to solve challenges. in addition, participants on the course will learn how to program robots in ‘Ozoblockly’ in order to send messages in Morse code, develop games and learn how to navigate autonomously.This robotics camp consists of eight 95-minute sessions over a two-day period and promises to be fun, creative and engaging.No previous experience required.10.00am – 4.00pm on each dayEARLY BIRD DISCOUNT OFFER – Available until 4 January 2022The cost of this 2-day camp is £90 per person (usually £100).All materials and equipment are provided.Available dates:
