May’s Family Science Club: Our Place in Space was stellar!
Families began the session with a game of matching the shapes of constellations to their names, discovering how imaginative ancient civilisations were with their myths and legends. Parents and children all enjoyed a trip to the stars in our school planetarium, with the immersive experience taking them from flying through the rings of Saturn to falling into a black hole! Back in the lab, we designed our own constellations and created a pocket-sized solar system. Finally, combining ingredients such as water, ammonia, carbon, and amino acids, we froze them together in a ball with dry ice to create a mini comet inside the lab!
The final Family Science Club session of the year takes place on Saturday 13 June and is all about Pond Life. Participants will be going pond dipping in the school rill and then investigating their discoveries with microscopes in the lab.
