Friday 18 May 2018 was a day of assorted emotions for this year’s Upper Sixth as they transitioned from pupils to Old Abingdonians.
This special Leavers’ Day commenced in the Amey Theatre with uplifting addresses from both the Headmaster and David Lindgren (1993), President of the OA Club. This was followed by an amusing yet meaningful speech by OA Dylan Clive (2008), who was delighted to be able to return to the School for the first time in ten years. Dylan, who now works across live football for BT Sport, wonderfully blended short-term tips for university with advice that the boys should, throughout life, stay open to fresh opportunities and stay true to their unique aspirations. In Dylan’s own words, “take risks, be stubborn, be happy, be yourself.”
With plenty to celebrate, consider and anticipate, all Upper Sixth leavers were then presented with their OA ties before being led out onto Upper Field for the traditional group photograph. This was followed, of course, by an obligatory ice cream and a laid-back BBQ in Austin House garden.
Many thanks again to David and Dylan for contributing so brilliantly to this year’s Leavers’ Day. We wish our leavers all the very best for their forthcoming exams and life beyond, and look forward to hearing from and seeing them again as OAs.
