abingdon.org.uk/prep 3 Abingdon Prep News Grandparents’ Tea In June, over 130 grandparents enjoyed an afternoon at Abingdon Prep being entertained by their grandsons. On arrival, the grandparents were escorted to the classrooms where they were greeted by the boys who had their books ready. They eagerly showed all the lovely work that they have done this year, sharing special pieces they were really proud of. After this, they were given a guided tour of the school by their grandsons. The tour ended in the main hall where a delicious cream tea awaited. As grandparents tucked into the tasty tea they enjoyed music and poetry recitals from the boys. The afternoon was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Louise Batho In May, the whole school met on the sports field to welcome some very special visitors, a Merlin helicopter and crew from 845 Naval Air Commando Squadron, arranged by the parents of one of our Year 2 boys. We could hear the helicopter before we spotted it on the horizon. It flew over and did a circuit before settling down on the field. After the rotors and engines stopped, we were all able to approach and everyone was able to go inside the 24 seater machine. The boys relished trying on the helmets, and some even got to sit in the cockpit. Thank you very much to Captain Ben Lilley and his crew for such an exciting morning. Helicopter Visit
