7 abingdon.org.uk A wheelie good time Lower School pupils attended hour-long workshops with former BMX halfpipe World Champion Mike Mullen in June. Over the course of the session, they gradually built up the difficulty and complexity of the tricks they attempted under Mike's expert guidance. In June the 2M quiz team champions took on Hampton in a friendly match. Tackling questions from Roman commanders to English football, it was a closely fought contest, with victory secured by Hampton in the closing stages. Congratulations to Harry, Seb Rory and Charlie for representing the school on the quizzing stage for the first time. News Abingdon Bees knees Very many thanks to SUS for donating a new hive and equipment. After splitting the original colony, students found evidence of a new queen bee! French film and pizza night On a hot and sunny evening, a group of Lower School students enjoyed some delicious pizzas before watching Une Vie de Chat, a French award winning animation, in the welcomely air conditioned theatre. They all rated the film very highly and enjoyed the combination of humour and poignancy. Lower School quizzers The Martlet shines again The school newspaper The Martlet has once again won Best Newspaper category in The Shine School Media Awards. Run by The Stationers' Foundation, the awards are designed to reward students who create outstanding newspapers, magazines, podcasts, and digital projects, and help young people develop crucial literacy, publishing, and business skills. A huge congratulations to the entire Martlet team for their hard work, under the guidance of editor Nathan, who leaves behind a remarkable legacy for next year’s editor, Dylan.
