An Audience with Ben Macintyre (OA 1981) On Thursday 23 March, Ben Macintyre discussed his latest book ‘Colditz: Prisoners of the Castle’ in which he gave an inside story of life in this infamous German prison for allied officers, challenging what we always thought we knew. Ben is a bestselling author whose books ‘SAS: Rogue Heroes’ and ‘A Spy Among Friends’ have recently been televised. The Road to RECOVERY: Finding treatments for a pandemic On Friday 24 February, Professor Sir Martin Landray (OA 1987) returned to Abingdon to give a fascinating talk on his pivotal role in the RECOVERY trial (the world’s largest trial of potential treatments for COVID-19 and the discovery that dexamethasone reduces mortality for the sickest patients) for which he received a knighthood for services to public health and science. Entrepreneurship Panel Event On Thursday 2 March, the OA Club welcomed back Merlin Dunlop (OA 1997 and current parent), Stephen Pavlovich (OA 1997) and Durotimi Adebutu (OA 2021) for a panel event on entrepreneurship. Students, OAs and parents were treated to an insightful talk about the highs and lows entrepreneurs encounter. Abingdon’s Head of Economics, Tony Gray, brought his own entrepreneurial experience to the role of host, ensuring a high level of engagement with the audience.
