abingdon.org.uk/prep 11 PRE-PREP A PRIZEWINNING STORY Dylan entered a competition at local independent bookshop, Mostly Books. His story of ‘The Sloth’s Day Out’ was runner-up in his age-group and won a bookish prize. Well done, Dylan! Pre-Prep celebrated the Queen’s 70th Jubilee with a outdoor concert for their parents complete with home-made bunting, flags, flowers and hats. The programme included ‘Let’s Go fly a kite’, sung by the children with gusto and plenty of actions, and the traditional ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ before joining their parents for a very British cream tea. JUBILEE CONCERT In May, with the Platinum Jubilee approaching, author and illustrator, Steve Antony, joined Reception to Year 3 pupils to share his books ‘The Queen’s Hat’ and ‘The Queen’s Handbag’. He demonstrated how to draw and shade simple pictures from his books. At the end of the day, he joined parents to draw and chat with them, signing books and adding little illustrations. The children were left keen to find out more about Queen Elizabeth, and looking forward to the jubilee celebrations. AUTHOR VISIT NATURAL SCIENCE Year 1 hatched butterflies. Can you spot them? Reception took their Red Word spellings outside.Year 2 learnt about the parts of flowers.
