Sixth form scholarships
• Academic: Sixth form academic scholarships may be awarded on entry
to the School from other schools, the scholarship examinations being
held in November (overseas) and early March. Candidates
will sit papers in at least two of the subjects they intend to study
at A level, together with a general paper and reasoning paper.
There will also be subject interviews and a general interview.

information.
• Art and Design Technology: Art and design technology scholarships are
made after examination of project work, a practical examination and an
interview.
• Music: A flexible number of music scholarships, including free tuition on
up to three instruments. We also offer instrumental exhibitions giving free
tuition on one or two instruments. Music awards are based on auditions
on at least two instruments.
• Sports awards for outstanding candidates.
• Drama awards for outstanding candidates.
Both sports and drama awards are made on the strength of an assessment
of appropriate skills and achievements in a practical
session and at interview.
Financial Assistance through Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships and other similar awards carry a nominal financial reward.
In the Lower School, entry at age 11, the Academic and Griffen awards
carry an entitlement to a nominal fee remission of £300 per annum. Music
exhibitions provide free tuition on one (or occasionally two) instruments.
In Middle and Upper School all scholarships carry an entitlement to a
nominal fee remission of £300 per annum. Music scholarships offer free
tuition on up to three instruments and music exhibitions offer free tuition on
one or two instruments. In addition, for all scholarships and awards, there is
an option to apply for further financial assistance through a means-tested
bursary (dependent on parental need) and this can be
up to 100% of fees.
Tenure of awards is conditional upon continued good work and behaviour.

Fees and conditions
School fees are payable termly in advance. The fees include the provision
of textbooks but not the cost of major travel items such as exchanges, ski
trips and field courses. An extra charge is made for daily transport on the
school coaches. Full details on current charges are available from the

It is the parents’
responsibility to get their sons to school. All pupils are expected to attend
school lunch each day and the cost is included in the tuition fee.
The Governors endeavour to restrict fee increases, such increases being
normally effective from September. Fees are due to be paid before the
first day of each term except when payment by Direct Debit instalments is
agreed. The Governors reserve the right to charge interest on fees that
are overdue.
Except for pupils leaving the upper sixth in July, at least a full term’s notice
of leaving must be given in writing. If such notice is not provided, the
Governors reserve the right to charge a full term’s fee. Similarly, a full
term’s notice in writing is expected if instrumental music tuition is to be
discontinued or a place on a school bus is no longer required.

An acceptance deposit is required to secure a place.
Financial assistance with fees
Bursaries may be awarded on entry to the School at age 11, 13 or 16 and
can be up to 100% of fees. All bursaries are means-tested.
In some circumstances bursary funds are available for parents of boys
already in the School who have temporary and unexpected financial
difficulties. Priority will be given to those approaching a critical time in their
education, such as GCSEs or A levels, and assistance would not normally
be given for more than two terms.
