Abingdon News April 2017 | No. 44 Exploring the Arctic Wilderness Twenty Abingdon students returned fromFinland’s Arcticwilderness talking passionately about conservation issues and the need to protect both the environment and the ancient culture of this beautiful part of the world. The boys explored this stunning environment over the Christmas holiday, learning wilderness skills including navigating through the boreal forest in the midwinter’s darkness. They enjoyed ice-climbing, snowshoeing and sledging, saw golden eagles and experienced the thrill of a husky ride at sunrise in the boreal forest. Seeing the majestic northern lights and living in the Arctic wilderness over midwinter’s day were highlights of a unique experience that will stay with the boys for a very long time.
