G R I F F E N 2 0 2 3 | 2 7 Sport A group of Old Abingdonians, spearheaded by Sasha Barras (2013), have (re)formed an OA cricket team and are keen to spread the word to the alumni community. “A core group of us who have remained friends whilst living in London and who are playing regular league cricket together back in Oxfordshire had decided that something was missing in our lives – OA cricket and a chance to relive the glory years! OA Cricket With fond memories of summer afternoons spent at War Memorial Field (also known as the snake pit) still held closely in our hearts, we agreed that it would be fantastic to establish an ‘official’ OA cricket team with regular Sunday fixtures each summer. It is a work in progress but, as it stands, we have two fixtures pencilled in for Summer 2023: • vs St Edward’s Martyrs (their alumni team) at St Edward’s – date TBC • vs Cryptics Cricket Club (an illustrious wandering side) at Aston Rowant Cricket Club – date TBC. We are hoping for a third fixture against Cheltenham or Bradfield. In addition to the above, we are passionate about implementing a whole day summer fixture for the OAs against the Abingdon School 1st XI.
