www.abingdon.org.uk 27 Huge congratulations to Charlie Atkinson (OA 2020) who is one of 35 players selected by Eddie Jones for a three-day training camp in Teddington in June. Atkinson joined England greats including Jonny May at The Lensbury in preparation for England’s match against the Barbarians the same month and their tour of Australia in July. In an Overs vs Unders match, it was the Unders that were eventual winners in a tightly fought affair. Alex Fisher (OA 2007), having just finished his season from Newport County, was unable to contain the current crop of Abingdon footballers as the young side ran out 2-1 winners. England selection OA Football Henley Strawberries and Pimm’s A firm favourite of the OA calendar, the Henley Strawberries and Pimm’s event was once again thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance. It was fantastic to see so many members of the school community. OA Golf Day 50s and 60s Dinner Leavers from the 1950s and 1960s met for dinner on Friday 6 May in the Victorian seaside town of Clevedon, Somerset. Overlooking the Severn Estuary and the Welsh hills, guests enjoyed a wonderful evening and overnight stay. On Friday 6 May, Mark Hindley and Ben Simmons travelled up to Durham to host a university reunion for those in the North East. With over 25 OAs in attendance from both Durham and Newcastle universities, this young crop of OAs enjoyed meeting up with current teachers. Year Group Reunions Following a hiatus in year group events, the OA Club held a reunion for 1970s and 1980s leavers at Abingdon on Saturday 21 May and for 1990s and 2000s leavers on Saturday 18 June. Chapel was followed by a drinks reception, tours of the School and a buffet supper. Former boarders were also given the opportunity to view their old House. The chance to reminisce and share stories left some “wishing they could turn back the clock 55 years” and relive their Abingdon days!
