5 www.oaclub.org.uk Educational and Career Guidance for Current Boys Old Abingdonians can play an invaluable role in helping current Abingdon School boys evaluate, choose and pursue their educational and career interests. There is a wide range of opportunities for you to provide educational and career guidance. Any time of the year: • Complete a short summary of your education and career, including advice you might have for boys thinking about embarking on a similar path. We will make these available through the Careers Office at the School. • Give careers advice over the phone or via email to Fifth or Sixth Form boys. During Spring/Summer: • Participate in the Abingdon Schools Careers Convention held each March for Abingdon School, St Helen and St Katharine and Our Lady’s. CAREERS PROGRAMME • In June, give mock interviews to Lower Sixth Form boys at Abingdon School. • Assist us with UCAS preparation for Lower Sixth Form boys in June at Abingdon School. • Host an internship at your place of work in July or August for one or more Lower Sixth Form boys. During Autumn/Winter: • During a weekday evening in October or November, give a career talk to Fifth and/or Sixth Form boys at Abingdon School. • In November, participate in our evening of mock Oxbridge-style interviews for Upper Sixth form boys at Abingdon School. Do any of these opportunities interest you? If so, please contact Alison Lester, Alumni Officer, at [email protected] or telephone 01235 849098. The Guild of Mercers’ Scholars The Guild of Mercers’ Scholars is a Guild in the City of London, made up from alumni and associates of the Mercers’ Company’s cluster of schools. Amongst its principal objectives is enabling its members to become Liverymen of City Companies. The Apprentice Scheme and Charitable Trust offers opportunities for those still at Abingdon to learn more about the City of London and OAs can join as Guildsmen as well. There is an extensive social events calendar for 2014 and more information can be obtained from either the website (www.mercersscholars.com ) or from Dr Tim Myatt (1998). ([email protected])
