Careers Event for 4th/5th Year Pupils/Parents, Wednesday 20 June, 6pm to 7.30pm, Greening Court, Abingdon School

Might a career in Engineering, Financial Services, Government, Healthcare, IT, Law, Marketing, Media & Entertainment, Property, or Scientific Research be somewhere in your son’s future?  If so, you and he are invited to attend an event entitled ‘The Truths and Myths Behind Ten Often Misunderstood Careers’ at which we will be exploring the truths and busting some myths behind these ten career areas. Working professionals will share their insights and clarify common misunderstandings about their occupation.  At the event, pick up a new career guidance booklet or view it online.  No booking is necessary, just turn up. Questions? Contact Michael Triff, Head of Career Guidance, [email protected].

Music Notices

Wednesday 13 June at 6pm in the Amey Theatre – Junior Solo Instrumental Competition.  Parents are warmly invited to come and hear our Junior soloists battle it out in front of our visiting adjudicator, Tim Bennett OA, who is Director of Music at Cheam School near Newbury. It should be a great event, about 60 minutes long and you are sure to see some of our musical stars of the future! Admission is free.

Summer Musical Cruise Friday 22 June at 6pm – don’t forget to book your tickets!

The Abingdon School Music Society invite you and your family to join us on a musical cruise along the River Thames on Friday 22 June.  Please bring your own picnics and soft drinks to consume whilst enjoying a programme of music and singing from several of the school quartets and ensembles.  Not only an excellent way to mark the Summer Solstice, but the last music social event of the year and, for some, an opportunity for final farewells.

We will be travelling with Salters Steamers from Abingdon Marine by Abingdon bridge. Departure will be at 6pm prompt, so please aim to be on board 15-20 minutes beforehand, returning at 9pm.  There will be a licensed bar for beers, wines and spirits.  There is a ticket charge of £20 for adults, £12 for boys and siblings towards the cost of the boat hire and family tickets are also available.

The groups of boys performing include the 10 boys of the close harmony Academicals and the 4th Year String Quartet of Ashwin, Elvis, Nick and Hugo – along with a number of staff performers – JGP, LS, JAC, CFC!

Tickets are selling fast, so book yours now through the school box office website.
